Environmental Policy - Solar Health Becomes Carbon Neutral

Solar Health Clinic recently received EnviroSave’s highest level "No Carbon" designation, after offsetting the clinic emissions that are under the Clinic’s control.

EnviroSave’s Neil Burnard says, "We were commissioned by Solar Health to gain an understanding of the practice's environmental profile. We commenced the assignment by gathering the required data to measure Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions using Greenhouse Gas accounting methodology.

Solar Health’s owner, Jackie Reader, says, "I have always had an interest in environmental issues and after speaking with EnviroSave I realised that I could probably do more as a business.  EnviroSave completed an analysis of the Clinic's carbon footprint. and they also helped me to develop a Carbon Reduction Plan that included initiatives for making savings in terms of carbon reduction.   This also has the effect of reducing my business expenditure in areas such as electricity usage. The plan also provided the practice with an Environmental Policy."

As a practice,  I now measure, reduce and then 100% Offset the emissions the Clinic is unable to avoid. This year I have selected three projects to support, following the review with EnviroSave. The projects I chose focused on:

• Run-of-river Hydropower in Ceyhan Basin, Turkey

• Biomass cogeneration in Sao Paulo, Brazil

• Methane Capture from Landfill, Chile

The Clinic's Carbon Reduction Plan is an ongoing work in progress and I am looking forward to continuous improvement and will be looking forward to EnviroSave’s next review to see just what has been achieved.
